Answer: I don't know for sure, but it seems like it would be a good idea to. Even if you're not going to get college credit that might be a good background for you. You should check with the school's you are interested in and see what they say. Usually the only things you have to take

SD marketing firm wins huge tobacco prevention contract

When Jeff Jordan founded Rescue Social Change Group in 2001 to do science-based anti-smoking campaigns, it was a struggle for the tiny San Diego company to get much attention in the marketing world.

Jordan developed his own brand of research, targeting teens and young adults by their social “scenes,” rather than their ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds, for anti-smoking programs in states as diverse as New Mexico and Virginia.

The work got results. Smoking rates fell in the states where it did campaigns.

Now, his company has broken through to the big time, winning a $152 million contract for an anti-smoking campaign from the federal government.

It’s a bit much to swallow for Jordan, a tall, fit 28-year-old who’s used to seeing his company as outside the anti-smoking orthodoxy of ad agencies that have spent millions of dollars running nationwide campaigns paid for by a massive tobacco settlement reached between the government and tobacco companies in 1999.

Extracting DNA from Strawberries - Food Science | What's Cooking ...

Given all of the years that I have spent teaching children to cook and eat healthy, it comes as no surprise that I like to include food in my high school biology curriculum.  Right now, we are finishing up a unit on cell division and DNA.  My students were thrilled to find a large mug filled with strawberries on my desk this week on our lab day.  But they couldn’t get over the strange mixture of odors – the sweet fragrance of the berries combined with the vapors evaporating from our bottles of rubbing alcohol.  Like a fruit-doctor’s office!

The goal of our lab was to extract the DNA from the berries, so they could see what it looks like with the naked eye.  It was simple to do, and can even be done at home with kids of any age.

The best part was that we didn’t need any fancy-schmancy scientific equipment to complete the lab.  We only required a combination of ingredients and equipment that most households have handy.  (I know you probably don’t have a test tube – but I have a hunch that you have a shot glass!).
