North Shore Country Day will host over 300 students from 13 schools for the Middle School Science Olympiad Invitational on February 4 from 8 – 4:45 p.m. Science Olympiad is a national organization that holds competitions for 23 science events at the regional, state and national level. The event incorporates all areas of science into one competition: biology, chemistry, earth science and physics combined with engineering and technology applications.
Schools competing at the Invitational include: Attea Middle, Daniel Wright Middle, Francis W. Parker, Grayslake Middle, Haven Middle, Latin School of Chicago, Marie Murphy Middle, North Park Elementary, North Shore Country Day, Old Orchard Junior High, Park View Junior High, South Middle and Springman Junior High.
This year the competition includes the following 23 events: Anatomy,Awesome Aquifers, Bottle Rockets, Compute This, Disease Detectives, Dynamic Planet, Experimental Design, Food Science, Forestry, Keep the Heat (thermodynamics), Meteorology, Microbe Mission, Mission Possible (Rube Goldberg like device), Mousetrap, Vehicle, Optics, Reach for the Stars (astronomy), Road Scholars (map reading), Rocks and Minerals, Science Crimebusters, Storm the Castle (trebuchet), Towers, Water Quality and Write It Do it (technical writing).
