Dr. Cordain: I’m not sure I know what all of the new eating/dieting trends are. My expertise is in ancestra/evolutionary human nutrition
2. What are the advantages/disadvantages to raw eating?
Dr. Cordain: Raw plant foods typically, but not always contain higher micronutrients concentrations. Raw meat and fish may contain bacterial contamination.
3. What are the advantages/disadvantages to the Paleo diet?
Dr. Cordain: It is the world’s healthiest diet because it contains a greater micronutrient density than the USDA My Plate Diet, the Meditteranean Diet, vegan and vegetarian diets among others. Further its high protein and low glycemic load have been demonstrated in large clinical trials (The DIOGENES Study) to be the most effective dietary characteristics to get weight off and keep it off. It is also high in fiber, omega 3 fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, fruits and vegetables and therefore is net base yielding. It contains no processed foods, salt, refined sugars or refined vegetable oils and is low in antinutrients found in cereal grains and legumes.
