If I am using a diet log and my daily budget is 1,250 calories, does that budget increase if I've worked out?

Question: Ex: today I did a 1 hour spinning class and burned 700 calories, does this make my daily budget increase to 1,950 cals or does it stay the same? Also, as a side note, I am trying to lose weight, not maintain.

Answer: Yes, if you do an intense cardio session I would allow yourself some extra calories over your 1,250. It really depends on how your body feels. If you feel weak or extremely hungry maybe up your calories to 1600 on your heavy workout days. Good luck with your fitness goals. But

MOODY: Eating disorder awareness in the spotlight

Feb. 24 marked the beginning of “National Eating Disorder Awareness Week,” a week designated to raise awareness about the issues and challenges surrounding eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, and the opportunities for parents, teachers, coaches, and the community to create a healthy and positive dialogue about dieting, healthy eating, and body image. This year’s theme, “Everybody Knows Somebody,” acknowledges the more than 10 million women and 1 million men who have had, or are currently battling, an eating disorder.

Anorexia and bulimia are the two most widely known eating disorders, and they can have serious consequences and repercussions on the physical and emotional health of young men and women. Anorexia presents itself as self-starvation, so the body is denied the nutrients it needs to function properly. This potentially life threatening disorder can lead to abnormally slow heart rates, low blood pressure, reduction in bone density, dehydration and kidney failure.

For Micah Mortag, looking ripped in a bikini was no easy feat.

Mortag competed in the Panhandle Showdown NPC National Qualifier in the Pensacola High School Auditorium on April 14 in a class of 10 women, all trying to wear the best “soft, lean muscles” possible.

In the entire competition, there were a total of 175 participants. Mortag competed in the bikini division and won in her class. There were three classes, divided by height. Mortag was in the B class, which women 5’4” to 5’7” qualified for.

“I decided to do the show in November, so I kind of went on a bulk diet — just high protein diet and lifting heavy — trying to put on some muscle. I did that for six weeks. In December, is when I started my lean-out diet,” said Mortag.

The hardcore dieting and exercising was a four and a half month process.

“This was my first, and I said it would be my last, but you do get a little addicted to it once you do it. I was just doing it for the experience,” she said....
