Genetically manipulated plants do not contribute to climate protection. They can increase even the output at carbon dioxide. To this result a report of the environment organization Friends OF Earth (FoE) comes. Also different promises, with which the genetic engineering companies sell their seeds, were not fulfilled, say FoE.

In Europe 2009 ten per cent less Gentech corn was cultivated than in the year before. World-wide the cultivated areas rose again. However the numbers of the genetic engineering lobby organization ISAAA come. Environment organizations evaluate it as blown up.

The cultivation of gene corn in Germany remains forbidden for this year. The US agrarian company Monsanto withdrew its complaint against the cultivation prohibition for the sort MON 810 for the time being. Whether for the Genfood critics represents a success, is questionable.

Those Hamburg citizenry decided that Hamburg is to remain genetic engineering-free. In one of politicians of all parties the delegates decided formulated request that with receipts and meetings and in urban mechanisms, as far as possible, only genetic engineering-free food is to be offered to the city. They requested the senate, concepts and initiatives for the creation of genetic engineering-free zones, for example the initiative genetic engineering-free Metropolregion Hamburg to support.

The Indian secretary of the environment Jairam Ramesh announced a moratorium for the planned permission genetically manipulated Auberginen (Bt-Brinjal).
